Laser Squad 3D is a free squad-based tactical pseudo-realtime strategy game. It can be played either single player or two players over a network. It includes different missions, weapons and equipment. Emphasis is on easy setup, quick start, and enjoyment. It also runs on Windows or Linux.
What's it all about
then?
This is a strategy game, where you control a squad of troops
against your opponent's squad. Each side competes against
the other to win the game.
This normally consists of either killing all your opponents men,
destroying certain objects, or rescuing people. Using action
points, you take turns in moving your troops, commanding them to
shoot, open doors etc..
Any More Details?
Apart from this being 3D, its also what I
can only describe as pseudo real-time. You have action points to spend, but as they are used up by you and
your opponent, they are replenished equally and automatically.
This way you don't have to wait for your opponent to take their
whole turn before you can do anything. As soon as they've used up a few action points, you
can start moving your troops again.
Anything else I should
know?
Not really, apart from the fact that it is
amazing fun playing against a human opponent in a tactical
strategy game such as this. There's no substitute for seeing the
face of your opponent as you kill one of his men. However, if you're like me and can't afford a second PC and thus don't have a network, the game comes with a clever and non-cheating AI that will give you a challenging game.
